I don't get out of Oklahoma much, as my family doesn't really believe in traveling. However, I was able to go to Naples, Florida with some friends and their parents last spring break. It was still a bit too chilly to swim in the ocean but it turned out to be an awesome trip. We stayed in the family's condo which was backed up to a little wildlife area. There were so many lizards, birds, and squirrels to watch.
(Common Lizard Lacerta vivipara,
I was very impressed with the food as well. Once, I was hesitant to order what was essentially fish sticks but it was delicious and fresh. I'd kill for some of those fish sticks any day. I also really enjoyed our walks. I'm not usually a very active person but the area lacked Oklahoma's normal heat and humidity. Being outdoors was actually very enjoyable. This was at the end of one of our excursions. There was a nice little gazebo-type structure out in the middle of the water to sit and watch the fish and turtles.

end of one of our morning walks)
Even though we didn't get farther into the water than our toes, the ocean was beautiful to watch. The sunsets reflecting off of the water were almost as pretty as the ones we have in Oklahoma. I've heard that when watching a sunset over an ocean, there is a flash of green light right when the sun disappears under the line of the ocean. We all waited and looked hard for the flash but it did not appear on the day that this photo was taken. I'll be sure to check again when I go back for more fish sticks.

What fantastic pictures, Casey: I really like the one of the seemingly endless walkway! And I know what you mean about remembering those fish sticks: when I was very little, we went to the beach for a vacation, and I think I ate what must have been my first peach there. The memory of that peach is still so vivid all these decades later, and I have never had a peach since that tasted as amazing as that one did! :-)
ReplyDeleteCasey,
ReplyDeleteI went to Florida over spring break this year too and it was colder where I was than it was here in Oklahoma!! My time on the beach was spent covered up in a sweatshirt and I was freezing the whole trip! I definitely packed for the beach and not the cold! I love being able to hear the waves crashing against the shore and the smell of the salt in the air just makes me feel at home. Florida is one of my favorite places too :)
Casey,
ReplyDeleteYou take some really awesome pictures! Naples looks gorgeous! I have never been there, but I have traveled other places in Florida. I have two favorite Florida experiences. My first one is kayaking with manatees, which sounds scary, and I am not going to lie, it was at first. Just seeing an animal in their natural habitat was so cool and it was a great experience until we saw an alligator and then I wanted out of the water (lol). My second is, I went on a dolphin excursion and got to swim with wild dolphins, it was amazing. If you're an adventurous person, I highly recommend these activities.
