Topic Research: Brothers Grimm

Originally, I was planning on using ghost stories as the topic for my project. Unfortunately, I do most of my writing for this class late at night, and I was creeped out just doing research for my Topic Brainstorm post. I think I could've had a lot of fun with that topic, but I don't want to torture my future self. Now, I think I'd like to focus in on the Brothers Grimm.

One story I would be interested in using is called Snow-White and Rose-Red. I was drawn to this story due to the title and its similarity to the Disney movie. There were no obvious links other than the name, which was fine with me. Instead of animals and dwarves, I’d like to use humans with similar physical and personality traits. In place of the bear that comes to the door, I’d like to use a large, hairy, scary-looking man. From this story, I would like to take that man who turns into a prince and have him save a woman from danger the way the bear did.

King Thrushbeard also caught my eye. I would use the girl who was uninterested in each of the suitors. She would meet the grizzly man from the above-mentioned story, and she would turn him away as well. Her father, fed up with her pickiness, would marry her off to him anyways. Her husband would require her to work more than she ever had before, but he would save her from danger the way the bear did. After, she would be so thankful for him and realize her love. He would become a beautiful prince.

I discussed retelling The Twelve Dancing Princesses in a previous post. The king asks the grizzly man to find where his daughters sneak off to each night. He finds out and the king gives him his eldest daughter for whom he has been playing matchmaker. Obviously, I've got some thinking to do on how exactly to weave these stories together, but I'm definitely interested in using these and basing my project on the Brothers Grimm. I plan to use sources from The Index of Grimm Stories from the UnTextbook.
